Cardinals sweep their way into District finals

The Lady Cardinals swept their way into the district finals with a 3-0 win over Hillcrest at home on Saturday.  This is will be their seventh consecutive appearance in the district championship game.  They have won the last four district titles and five of the last six.  It is the sixth time over those seven title matches that Carl Junction is the opponent.

In the first set with Hillcrest, the Hornets jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead.  Finally catching them at seven, the Cardinals took their first lead in the middle of a back to back five point scoring sprees.  Hillcrest closed to within single point at 15-14 before Webb City scored 10 of the next 15 points to claim a 25-19 first set.

The second set never saw either side lead by more that two points in the early going.  Earning a side out and trailing 10-9, Savannah Crane then served up 10 consecutive points.  A time out from Hillcrest with the score now 20-11 only slowed the home team momentarily before they finished off the second set at 25-14.

In set three it was the Cardinals that opened with the first four points.  Hillcrest crawled back to even the score at six, but now it was Jaylee VanBecelaere that held serve in a 6-0 run that gave the Cardinals the cushion they needed as they finished off the Hornets at 25-14, advancing to the title contest.

Marlee Harper and Adelyn Maxwell each were credited with 9 kills in the match.  Savannah Crane continued to add to her career assist total with 26 on the day.  Defensively, Avery Gardner was credited with 19 digs along with 12 from Jaylee VanBecelaere.

The title match is set for Tuesday at 5:30.
