Lady Cards outlast Willard on Pink Out night at the Dome

With honoray coach Stephanie Taylor sitting on the bench, the Lady Cardinals took the first two sets and seemed on their way to a short night, but Willard pushed them to the five set limit before Webb City prevailed 3-2 on Thursday.

Willard jumped out quickly in the first set and led 8-3 early.  Trailing 16-11, Webb City then rallied off 10 of the next 11 points to take a 21-17 lead before prevailing 25-22.

Set two was all Webb City from the start as sprung out to an 9-2 lead and then cruised on to a 25-17 win and 2-0 set lead.

The third and fourth sets were about as even as they could be.  In set three alone the score was tied twelve different times, the final at 23-23 before Willard grabbed the last two points.   In the fourth set neither team was able to build more than a three point lead, but Willard pushing the match into the fifth set when they were able to score four of the last five points with the Tigers winning 25-23.

In the final set and a 7-7 game, the Cardinals rallied five consecutive points to build a small lead and road that momentum into a match clinching 15-12 win.

On the evening, Marlee Harper recorded 15 kills to lead a group of four Lady Cardinals in double digit kills.  Kaelyn Maxwell and Adelyn Maxwell each with 11 and Jaylee VanBecelaere had 10.  Savannah Crane, who had just eclipsed 2000 career assists over the weekend, was credited with 47 more in the match. 

Webb City will host a triangular on Saturday morning with Colgan and Carl Junction visiting the Dome.
