Webb City sweeps home meet

Webb City's wrestlers swept a double dual Thursday night by defeating Joplin 45-25 and Carl Junction 46-25.

Webb City's Brandon Musselman at 195 pinned both of his opponents, and teammates Tristan Allen at 113 and Hunter Vanlue at 160 won both of their matches.

"We're getting there," said Webb City head coach Larron Hurst. "We're not quite in wrestling shape yet because of our football players. We have five or six guys in our lineup who have only had a couple of practices."

Webb City pulled away against Joplin with consecutive pins by Steven Moore at 182, Musselman, Drake Humphrey at 220 and Dalton Ford at heavyweight.

Against Carl Junction, Webb City won seven matches by pin, including Austin Thomas at 132, Dominick Howard at 138, Christian Weaver at 145, Xachery Meister at 170 and Tony Carranco at heavyweight.

"Half of our lineup are freshmen and sophomores," Hurst said. "They just want to compete each time out. When you want to compete, good things happen."

Webb City has a double dual Tuesday on the road with Glendale and Republic.
