An uplifting start was quickly dampened as the Lady Cardinals looked anything but the favorite as Neosho jumped out to a 16-3 lead late into the first quarter.
An agreement between coaches got the evening started with Kirra Long, lost for the season due to injury, getting one final start at home. Webb City taking a predetermined win on the tip got the ball to Kirra under the basket where she recorded her final two points. A layup from Neosho and a deliberate turnover allowed the home crowd one final ovation for Long as she left the floor with the score even at two.
Over the next seven minutes, Webb City would miss 15 consecutive shots, commit five turnovers and force Coach Berendt into using two of his timeouts. Neosho took advantage scoring 14 points, surrounding one free throw from Chasney Brown. Whitlee Keith finally broke the scoring drought and was followed by a Brecklynn Sargent field goal to finish the quarter trailing 16-7.
The second quart start was the exact opposite as the Cardinals opened with 9-0 run to catch the Wildcats. Neosho kept the pressure on as they extended the lead back out to an many as seven before a late bucket found the home team only trailing 25-21 at the break.
A 24 point third quarter finally put Webb City in control. When the score was tied one final time midway through the quarter, Webb City closed on an 11-1 run to hold a 10 point lead headed into the final quarter. Maintaining a double digit lead throughout the fourth quarter, the Cardinals came away with a 56-44 win.
Addie Burns led the scoring with 15, followed closely by Abby Sargent with 13. Burns grabbed a team high eight rebounds. Chasney Brown was next with six rebounds with five of them on the offensive glass.
Webb City will have the final home game on Thursday when Joplin comes to the Dome.
