Second half surge leads Cardinals to 46-36 win at Nevada

Second half surge leads Cardinals to 46-36 win at Nevada

Leading by only two at half, the Lady Cardinals came out of the locker room on a 14-2 run to surge ahead and came home with a 46-36 win over Nevada.

In a game that was tied four different times, the last at 21 just before halftime, the Cardinals never trailed in the contest.  Both teams are leaning on new lineups as both have lost one of the leaders to injury in the last week.  The offenses struggled in the opening half with neither team shooting over 30% from the field. The Cardinals had two more baskets from the floor, but 5 of 6 from the Tigers were from long range.  Webb City's defense forced 15 first half turnovers.

Coming back to the court for quarter number three, baskets from Addie Burns, Whitlee Keith and Adalyn Maxwell were followed by three pointer from Keith and the Cardinals had built a 10 point lead halfway through the quarter while holding Nevada scoreless.  The Tigers finally scored their first points of the second half after another basket from Addie Burns but then another three from Keith gave the Cardinals their biggest lead of the night at 37-23.   Webb City held the margin in the fourth quarter and finished the game with Abby Sargent making 3 of 4 from the free throw line as the Tigers were forced to foul.

Addie Burns finished with 14 points followed by Whitlee Keith with 11, including three buckets from behind the arc.  Abby Sargent and Adalyn Maxwell each secured six rebounds with Maxwell also blocking five shots.  The defense ended the night forcing 22 Tiger turnovers.  In a scoring oddity, in the last four wins, the opponents final score has been exactly 36 points.

Webb City (8-5) returns to the Dome next Tuesday to take on Carl Junction.
