The Lady Cardinals closed the second quarter on a 15-3 run to take control in an opening round win over Bentonville West on Monday evening.
Both teams got off to slow starts with the Wolverines only leading 5-4 after the first four minutes, but Bentonville West went a 10-4 run to end the quarter and after scoring the first bucket of the second had put the Cardinals down by nine. But after shooting an ice cold 4 of 25 in quarter one, the Cardinals heated up in the second, shooting 9 of 12 from the field and a perfect 6-6 from the free throw line. Trailing by six with little more than four minutes left in the half, the 15-3 run saw five different Cardinals score points in taking a 33-27 lead to the break.
In the first two minutes of the third quarter, the Wolverines closed to within two points but the Cardinals overpowered them with a 10-1 run to grab a double digit lead at the end of the third quarter. Webb City maintained that separation through out the fourth in advancing to a semi final meeting with Van Buren.
Addie Burns leading a trio of Cardinals in double digit scoring, finished with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Kirra Long added 12 with Whitlee Keith totaling 11. Abby Sargent handed out 5 assists. On the defensive end, the Cardinals forced 22 turn overs.
