Lady Cards earn OT win to begin 2016

The Lady Cardinals defeated the East Newton Patriots 58-55 in OT to begin the 2016 portion of their schedule.

Senior Lexey Kneib hit an open three in the closing seconds of the game to force overtime.  Katie Sticklen had just blocked a Patriot shot on the other end to set up the heriocs.

Webb City, down by nine points after one quarter, went on a 13-2 run to close the first half and take a 26-22 lead to the break. 

The Patriots outscoring the Cardinals 16-9 in the third quarter, held a three point lead into the final period.  Webb City was able to catch the Patriots at 44-44 with 3:15 left in the game.  East Newton extended their lead back to five with just a little more than a minute remaining.  Kaylee Beres scored inside with 1:12 left to close within three.  The Patriots missed a free throw chance at 38 seconds to add to the lead, leaving the Cardinals with the chance to tie.

In OT, Beres grabbed a missed free throw and was fouled on the put back and added the free throw to complete the old fashioned three point play and a 54-51 lead.  East Newton tied the game at 55-55 just insided the final minute.  After a Beres steal, Katy Crane made good on one free throw to give the Cardinals a one point lead with 20 seconds left.  Lindey Kneib stole a Patriot pass and was fouled with less than 10 seconds left.  She made both free throws for the final margin.

Lexey Kneib led the Cardinals (5-4) with 21 points, followed by Lindey Kneib with 12 points and Beres with 8 points.

Webb City will travel to Carl Junction on Thursday night.
