Webb City senior guard Mikaela Burgess scored 22 points as the Cardinals cruised to a 69-22 victory against the Joplin Eagles during the first round of the Joplin Freeman/Lady Eagle Classic.
The Cardinals (2-0) advance to the semifinals and will face Neosho at 8:30 p.m. today.
The second-seeded Cardinals led Joplin 43-14 at halftime and 66-22 at the end of the third quarter. The defense held Joplin to only five field goals for the game.
Burgess, the 5-foot-6 point guard, made four 3-pointers in the game. Desirea Buerge, a 6-0 junior post, took advantage inside and scored 13 of her 14 points in the first half.
"Those two are a great one two punch," Webb City coach Brad Shorter said. "They are a good inside-outside combination. Kaitlin Beason is in there, too. She's such a tough matchup with all the things she can do."
Beason, a 5-8 senior, scored 12 points as she made shots around the basket and from the perimeter. Senior Megan Heman was the Cardinals' fourth player in double figures with 10 points.
