Mikaela Burgess drove into the lane and scored the game-winning basket with 7.5 seconds left as Webb City slipped past Har-Ber 43-42 Friday night in the semifinals of the Freeman/Lady Eagle Classic.
Webb City, 4-1, will face Nixa in the championship game at 5:30 p.m. today in Young Gymnasium on the campus of Missouri Southern State University.
The Lady Cardinals trailed for most of the game and twice fell behind by as many as seven points. They took the lead in the second half for the first time 36-35 on a 3-point goal by Burgess with 4 minutes remaining
Webb City regained the lead 41-39 on another 3-pointer by Burgess with 1:08 to go. Har-Ber's Caroline Eubanks, who led the Wildcats with 15 points, sank three of four free throws in the final minute before the game-winning shot by Burgess.
Kaitlin Beason, who led Webb City with 18 points, scored the Cardinals' first six points as Webb City took an early 11-6 lead against the taller Wildcats. Har-Ber regained the lead 13-11 early in the second quarter and didn't trail again until the first 3-point goal by Burgess midway through the fourth quarter.
