The Lady Cardinals fell to the Midwest City OK Bombers in the finals of the KTXR tournament on Wednesday afternoon.
MWC opened with a quick 5-0 run to start the game before Hailey Roderique nailed a three and Kaitlin Jaeger followed with two free throws to tie the game halfway through the first quarter. The first quarter ended with Gabby Gannaway bombing a three from about 30 feet away and the Cardinals were leading 14-12 after the first quarter.
The second quarter was much of the same as neither team could pull away and the Bombers went to halftime leading 30-28. The Cardinals were held to 26% shooting in the half while the Bombers shot at 55%, but held a 18-17 rebounding advantage.
The Bombers held the Lady Cardinals scoreless for the first three minutes of the third, but were only able to score four points of their own and Hailey Roderique hit a free throw for the first points of the second half and the Lady Cards were down 34-29.
Neither team was able to score for the next several minutes until Kyndall Clark hit back to back threes and Jaeger scored on a break away to give the Cards 37-34 lead with a minute left in the third. The Bombers answered with back to back buckets to reestablish their lead as the third quarter ended 38-37.
The fourth quarter opened with a MWC basket and Clark nailed another three point shot to tie the game at 40. The Bombers scored the next four points and the Lady Cardinals spent the rest of the game trying to catch them. Although the lead was never more than four points, the Lady Cardinals were not able to catch them. Hailey Roderique hit a three with nineteen seconds remaining to pull Webb within one. After MWC only hit one of two free throws, the Cardiinals had one final shot with seven seconds left, but Roderique's last 3 point attempt fell off and the the final score was MWC 50 - Webb City 48.
Webb finished the game shooting 23%, but defensively were able to force 19 turnovers for the bombers. Kyndall Clark finished with 12 points, followed by Jaeger with 10 while Roderique was able to grab 10 rebounds.
Kaitlin Jaeger and Kyndal Clark were both named to the All-Tournament team.
