Top seeded Webb City romped over Ruskin 20-0 to open the Class 4 District 7 tournament.
The top of the first went by quickly as Addie Burns retired the Eagles in order. The bottom half of the first would not end until the Cardinals put 18 runs on the board before an out was recorded.
Liz Rhuems and Lily Hall laced doubles to open the inning with Rhuems scoring the first run. A walk to Alex Maturino, a single from Alivia Nieburg, Addie Burns reaching on an error was followed by home run from Brecklyn Sargent and the Cardinals now led 6-0. Continuing through the order, Chasney Brown and Karsyn Cahoon singled with Abby Sargent being hit by a pitch and the Cardinals returned to the top of the lineup. Rhuems, Hall and Maturino tripled in consecutive at bats. As the inning continued, the Cardinals called upon pinch hitters who continued the onslaught. In her third plate appearance of the inning, Rhuems ripped another triple plating the final of the 18 runs. The Cardinals then stepped off early to help bring the inning to an end. In the inning, Webb City scored 18 runs on 12 hits including two doubles, three triples and a homerun.
Liz Rhuems was a perfect 3-3 on the day driving in six. Lily Hall also recorded a 3-3 day, driving in a pair. Karsyn Cahoon went 2-2, as six other Cardinals recorded base hits. Fifteen different players scored at least one run.
The Cardinals will now take on Belton in a semi final match on Friday at 5:00. The other half of the bracket will have Carl Junction taking on McDonald County. The championship is set for Monday.
