Liz Rhuems' second home run of the day walks off Neosho

Liz Rhuems' second home run of the day walks off Neosho

A matchup of 20 win teams looked destined for extra innings, but Liz Rhuems belted her second home run of the day to end the game in the bottom of the seventh with the Cardinals walking away with an 8-7 win.

The Lady Cardinals struck first in the bottom of the opening inning when Liz Rhuems drew a lead off walk and scored on an Alex Maturino two run blast to left.

Neosho put up four of their own in the third inning and three more in the fourth around the first of Rhuems solo homers and led 7-3.

Webb City got one back in the fifth on the third home run of the day from the Cardinals, a solo blast from Chasney Brown

A three run uprising in the sixth tied the game.  Lily Hall tripled to right and scored when Alex Maturino doubled to the left field fence.  A double from Alivia Nieburg put runners on second and third as Maturino had to hold up and make sure it wasn't caught.  After a strikeout, pinch hitter Jayden Houston, with two strikes laid down a squeeze bunt.  Maturino scored, Nieburg moved up to third and Houston went all the way to second when nobody was covering the base.  Chasney Brown drove in her second run with a sacrifice fly to right to score Nieburg and get the score back to sevens.

Neosho got the leadoff batter on in the top of the seventh, but Lily Hall ranged back into short right field and caught a soft liner before throwing back to first to double the Wildcat runner.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Rhuems stepped up to the plate.  Down in the count 1-2, she drilled the next pitch over the left field fence to bring the game to a close.

All of the Cardinals seven hits on the day went for extra bases.  Two doubles, a triple and the four home runs.

Avery Burns earned the win in relief.  She went the final four innings, striking out six.

The Lady Cardinals take on Republic tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 pm and close out the regular season at Joplin on Monday.
