The Lady Cardinals fell to 1-1 in COC West division with a 4-3 loss at home to Willard.
Webb City left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and Willard did the same in the top of the second, however they got a run across first. A walk and three consecutive singles had plated the run and left the bases full of Tigers with only one out. Chasney Brown then charged a short hop single to center and fired it home to catcher Liz Rhuems for the force out, keeping the Tigers at a single run.
Another defensive gem in the third got the Cardinals out of the inning. After a lead off single, the next batter attempted to lay down a sacrifice bunt. During the toss to first to get the out, Willard tried to send their runner all the way to third. Brecklynn Sargent came in from her left field position to take the throw from Lilly Hall and turn that into a double play.
The Cardinals took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth. A single by Addie Burns and walk to Brecklynn Sargent brought Chasney Brown to the plate with nobody out. She cleared the bases with a smash over the left field fence for her fifth homer of the year.
Willard got an unearned run back in the fifth on a two out error by the Cardinals. Then in the sixth, another Cardinal error proved costly as the Tigers took a 4-3 lead.
Addie Burns and Chasney Brown both collected two hits on the day. Avrie Allen took the loss in relief of Addie Burns in the circle.
The Lady Cardinals are at Parkview on Thursday.
