Lady Cardinal softball remains unbeaten at home

The Lady Cardinals turned back the Wildcats from Logan-Rogersville 9-3 on Monday night.

The Wildcats scored a run to start the first inning, but the Cardinals plated three in the bottom of the inning.  Mariah Newby led off with a single and when the bunt from Renae Gillmore couldn't be handled by the Wildcats, they both advanced ending up at second and third.  Mareika Turpen doubled down the left field line to score both runs.  Turpen scored the third run of the inning as the Wildcats dropped a fly ball off the bat of Quincie Capron.

Addie Darby, with a hustle double to lead off the third, scored the fourth run for the Cardinals when Kaia Storm singled her home.  In the fourth, Newby singled and scored when Gillmore drilled a triple to the left center field gap.  Gillmore scored on an infield single from Turpen and Webb City led 6-2.

A two out rally in sixth extended the lead.  Turpen reached on an error and advanced on a single from Darby.  A single from Storm plated Turpen and a double over the left fielders head from Amy Morris scored the final two runs for the Cardinals.

Capron threw the first four innings, picking up the win, allowing two runs on five hits.  Morris took over in the fifth and gave up one run on two hits, with one strike out.

Darby collected three hits, while Newby, Turpen and Storm each had two.

The Cardinals (16-3) are on the road at Ozark and Neosho this week before heading north to the Blue Springs tournament this weekend.
