Lady Cards open season at home

Webb City opened their season at home with a 10-0 win over the Carl Junction Bulldogs.  

Mariah Newby reached base all four times with a walk and three bunt singles.  

Kaylee Cristy led off the second with a sharp single to right and Ashley Alexander reached on an error.  Then with two outs, Ali Vanzant drove in both runs with a single to center.

Newby collected her first hit to start the third and Kaia Storm reached on an error.  Newby scored on a throwing error and the Cristy tripled driving in Storm. Claire Mitchell drove in the final run of the inning with single and the Cardinals led 5-0 after three innings.

Three hits and three bulldog errors led to four more runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 9-0.  Addie Darby delivered the big hit of the inning with a triple to the right center field wall.

The game ended in the sixth when Newby scored on the ninth Bulldog error of the game, dropping a fly ball off the bat of Storm.

Cristy and Vanzant each collected two hits and scored twice.

Getting the start on the mound, Cristy held the Bulldogs to one hit through the first four innings.  She struck out seven and walked two.  Quincie Capron pitched the final two innings to earn the save.

The Cardinals will be at home with Monett on Thursday.
