Lady Cards fall in district finals

Webb City, trailiing 3-0 after five innings, mounted a late game rally to take a 4-3 lead, before falling to Republic 5-4 in the championship game of the district tournament

Desirea Buerge doubled to left-center with one out in the sixth, took third when Peyton Rogers reached on an outfield error and scored on Chesnie Philpot's two-out single to left.

Mariah Newby, whose running catch in left-center field saved two runs in the sixth, led off the seventh with a four-pitch walk, and Ashley Allgood singled to left. Mareika Turpen's grounded out for the first out, but it advanced both runners into scoring position. Newby scored on a wild pitch and pinch-runner Brittany Thurlo advanced to third with the tying run.

With two outs Buerge received a walk, and Rogers belted a double over the left fielder's head to score both runners and put the Cardinals on top 4-3.

A two run homerun from Republic in the bottom of the seventh however, ended the Lady Cardinals season
