Lady Cards advance to District Finals

Ashley Allgood hit a tworun home run and was the winning pitcher in relief Tuesday night as Webb City defeated Carthage 16-6 and advanced to the championship game of the Class 4 District 12 tournament.

Allgood retired 11 of the first 12 batters she faced as Webb City built a 12-3 lead through five innings. Her two-run home run highlighted a four-run fourth inning.

Webb City will face Republic at 6 p.m. today in the championship game at Fair Acres Sports Complex.

Carthage took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning
 on Kensey Sageser's two-run single after singles by Megan Taylor and Mika Bolton. Webb City answered with five runs in the bottom of the inning as the first five batters scored.

Addie Darby singled, Mareika Turpen walked, and Emily Harris, Desirea Buerge and Peyton Rogers all singled.  Katy Crane drove in a run with a ground ball and Chesnie Philpot singled in a run. 

After Allgood's home run drove in Ashley Alexander, who had singled, Webb City added two runs in the fourth on singles by Harris, Rogers, Crane and Philpot.

Webb City scored three runs in the fifth on Allgood's single, Turpen's double, an error, an RBI double by Buerge and Rogers' run-scoring ground ball.

Mariah Newby led off Webb City's four-run sixth inning with a single and scored on Alexander's triple to right field.

After a walk to Harris, Buerge ended the game with a three-run home run over the fence in right field.
