Lady Cards shut out Willard

Lady Cards shut out Willard

Webb City, snapping a 3 game losing streak,  defeated Willard 5-0 in Central Ozarks Conference action on Thursday.

Freshman Ashley Alllgood pitched the complete game, allowing only four hits, striking out five.  She only allowed a single in the fifth and worked out of a jam in the seventh, when the Tigers strung three singles together loading the bases with no outs.  She then coaxed a fly ball out to left, a strike out and ground out to second ended the game.

The Cardinals, limited to a second inning double from Desirea Buerge, scored four times in the fourth inning to take control of the game.  Mareika Turpen doubled to open the inning and one out later Desiera Burge worked a walk.  Peyton Rogers, scored both with a hard single to right field.  Ashley Alexander singled to left to score Rogers and then scored the final run on a Katy Crane double to the center field fence.

Webb City tacked on an insurance run in fifth, when Mariah Newby singled, stole second and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Turpen.  Emily Harris, attempting a squeeze bunt, placed it perfectly toward second and legged it into a run scoring single.

The Cardinals (7-4) will entertain Joplin on Saturday with the first pitch slated for 12:00.
