Cardinals compete at Carthage

With about five events remaining in the 2019 Carthage Track and Field Invitational on Thursday night, it became clear who was taking the meet by storm.

Mother Nature.

Scattered lighting storms in the Carthage area delayed and eventually forced an early end to the meet at David Haffner Stadium.

A makeup date will not be set to finish out the meet, according to Carthage coach Andy Youngworth, but the events completed and team points accumulated prior to the meet's cancellation will be officially recognized by MSHSAA, allowing all individual times and marks registered to be counted toward district qualification standards.

The boys team finished third, totaling 76 points on the abbreviated day.

Bailey Smith earned the only gold medal, clearing 13' 0" to win the pole vault, as teammate Treyton Simmons finished second.

James Morgan finished third in the 110 hurdles.
