Cardinal golfers defeat Carl Junction

Webb City won six singles matches and two best ball matches during a 9.5-5.5 victory over Carl Junction on Friday afternoon in their annual Papa John's Bird-Dog Match Play Championships at Briarbrook Golf Course.

Five of the 15 matches — 10 singles, three best ball and two alternate shots — were not decided until the final hole.

The Cardinals had singles victories from Colton Craig, Justin French, Blake Resa, Cameron Snyder, Cory Nichols and Justin Messer. Craig-Alec Goswick and Snyder- Nichols teamed up to win their best ball matches.

Goswick and the Bulldogs' Kellen Adams halved their No. 2 singles match, and both alternate shot matches finished all square — Webb City's Messer-Parker Tankersley vs. Dunlop-Knoblach and Trevor McFarland-Fisher Friend vs. Hickman-Steven Stroud.

The two schools co-host the Bird-Dog Invitational on Monday, starting at 9 a.m.
