The Cardinals won the third straight and remain unblemished at 2-0 in COC play with a 55-46 win at Carthage.
Cardinal Leaders
Trae Turner - Led the team with 13 points, only 2-6 from the field but 9-10 from the free throw line. Handed out six assists and garnered three steals.
Jackson Adams - Finished with a dozen points, 4-10 from the field with 2-2 from long range, grabbing a team high six rebounds, three each offensive and defensive.
Holden Johnson- The third Cardinal in double digits with 10 points on 5-9 shooting.
Slade Hurd- Working back from injury, was 2-3 from the field (1-2 from three) for five points, playing 15 minutes off the bench.
Game Recap
A slow start to the game saw the first quarter close with Carthage leading 9-5. Trailing 14-7 early in the second, the Cardinals went on a 14-0 run to pull ahead by a touchdown at 21-14. The run started with three's from Mason Young and Jackson Adams and another bucket from Young, followed by two free throws due to a Tiger technical foul and a basket from Trae Turner and finished with a Slade Hurd score. The Cardinals held a 24-21 lead at half.
The third quarter was a back and forth affair with neither able to shake free, the game tied on four different occasions before Webb City regained a four point edge into the final quarter. The fourth quarter started much the same but the Cardinals were able to pull out to a nine point lead inside three to play. The Tigers mounted a comeback and had the game back to within three as the clock neared the final minute. On the next Tiger shot, Trae Turner pulled down the rebound and as Hudson Matthiesen was fouled on the offensive end a second technical foul was charged to the Tigers. Matthiesen converted one of two with Turner knocking down both technical shots and the Cardinals were now back ahead by six. The Cardinals shot 3-4 from the line from that point forward to preserve the win.
