The Cardinals didn't let a slow start get them down. In fact, it was the contrary.
Webb City, trailing 9-6 after the first quarter, jumped out to a 29-18 lead at halftime and went on to upend Monett with a 23-point burst in the third quarter and a 19-11 advantage in the final period.
"Any time you play a district opponent, there is a lot of energy, and you have to come out and match it," said Cardinals assistant coach Nick Popejoy.
Webb City (7-6) was led by Alex Gaskill and Colton McKee with 16 points apiece. Other Cardinals scoring in double figures were Cohl Vaden with 12 and Terrell Kabala 11.
Webb City plays Wichita Independent at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Kansas National Guard Tournament in Frontenac.
