Cardinals begin districts with a 52-21 win over Parkview

Webb City made no trick about it as they treated the home crowd to a 52-21 win over Parkview on Halloween night to open district play.

Six different players scored touchdowns on the night for a well balanced offensive attack.  Mason Williams was the only player to find the endzone twice, with Braden Strickland, Talan Haslip and Austin Art each scoring once.  Trae Turner and Gus Karnes both caught scoring passes, one each from Strickland and Mason Young.  A 32 yard field from Diego Aldrete finished the scoring.

Webb City took the opening kickoff and covered the 62 yards on only four plays with Mason Williams getting the first score inside the first two minutes of play.

A Parkview score on a fumble return tied the score momentarily before Braden Strickland scored his touchdown, rolling over defenders,  to give the Cardinals the lead they would not give back.  Mason Williams scored again on the first play of the second quarter and Webb City now led 21-7.

Three by land was followed by one in the air as Braden Strickland hit Trae Turner on a inside post pattern of 15 yards.  On the ensuing possession, the Cardinals got the final three points of the half when Aldrete kicked the field goal as time expired with Webb City leading 31-14 at the break.

Trading touchdowns with the Vikings as the second half got underway, the Cardinals extended their lead even further when Mason Young hit Gus Karnes on a 34 yard touchdown strike late in the third quarter.

The final score came from Austin Arft with less than three minutes left in the game and with the seventh PAT from Aldrete the Cardinals led 52-21.

Spreading the wealth tonight, the Cardinals had three rushers finish with 70 yards.  Mason Williams (77), Drake Claborn (74) and Braden Strickland (71) led the 300 yard total.  Trae Turner (49) and Gus Karnes (34) contributed to the 116 yard passing total.

Defensively, the Cardinals held the Vikings to only 40 yards rushing.  Going to the passing game, the Vikings found a little success with 160 yards but Webb City picked off three passes, one each by Mason Young, Karsen Myers and Ben Wallace.

Webb City will now travel to Republic next Friday.
