For the second consecutive game, the Cardinal offense was held scoreless as the Chiefs pulled out a 26-23 win at Kickapoo.
A strong first half propelled Webb City to a 21-19 lead at halftime.
After both teams were unsuccessful on their opening drives, the Cardinal defense forced the Chiefs to punt on their second possession taking over at the Kickapoo 37 yard line after a 13 yard punt return from Brody Eggleston. The Cardinals scored 7 plays later on an eight yard run from Isaiah Tela. The big play of the drive was a nineteen yard run from Jackson Lucas.
Kickapoo tied it up at the end of the first quarter, but the offense only needed five plays to cover 61 yards. Lucas found the end zone on a 31 yard QB keeper and Webb City was back on top 14-7.
After Kickapoo scored quickly on the ensuing possession, Mason Williams was able to block the extra point attempt and the Cardinal maintained a 14-13 lead. Webb City scored on the third consecutive possession three minutes later. Tela scored his second TD of the game as he finished off the 54 yard drive with a one yard plunge.
When Kickapoo next scored, they attempted to tie the game with a 2 point PAT attempt but were unable to convert and trailed the Cardinals at the half 21-19.
Taking the second half kickoff, the Cardinal drive stalled at the Kickapoo 14 yard line. Two plays later, Gavin Stodghill forced the Kickapoo runner to fumble and recovered the loose ball at the Chief's 13 yard line. The turnover bug struck back at the Cardinals as, two plays later, they lost a fumble back to the Chiefs.
A 94 yard touchdown drive from Kickapoo put the Chiefs ahead 26-21 just as the fourth quarter began. The last two Cardinal possessions ended with a failed fourth down attempt inside the Chiefs twenty yard line. A safety on the final play of the game provided the final margin.
Jackson Lucas, scoring once, and Isaiah Tela, with two scores, each ran for over 100 yards. The Cardinals racked up nearly 400 yards of offense a had a nine minute advantage in time of possession. The Chiefs did win the aerial battle, throwing for 166 yards compared the Cardinals at only 53.
The Cardinals are back at home next Friday, entertaining the Ozark Tigers.
