Cardinals drop clash of top ranked teams to Nixa

An early season match up of top ten teams from Class 5 and Class 6, Webb City and Nixa zipped up and down the field with the Cardinals holding a 21-20 lead into the final three minutes of the first half.  The Eagles then used their size advangage to rattle off 35 unanswered points over the next two quarters, pulling away for a 55-21 win.

The Cardinals, ranked #2 in Class 5, took the opening kickoff and methodically marched down the field covering 55 yards in 9 plays to put up the first score of the night.  Isaiah Tela, making his first start, ripped off a 25 yard run on third down, carring it deep into Eagle territory.  Jackson Lucas finished the drive with a one yard TD plunge and the Cardinals held an early 7-0 lead.

Nixa scored on their possession but missed the PAT.  After kicking off to the Cardinals, Lucas scampered 69 yards for Webb City's second score and a 14-6 lead.

The Eagles scored on their next two possessinos, surrounding a failed fake punt from the Cardinals to grab their first lead, 20-14.  Once again the Cardinals offense chewed up the next 6 minutes of game time, covering 70 yards in 10 plays and regaining a 21-20 advantage.  Tela was again provided the spark, slashing 42 yards on the third play of the drive.  Andew Elwell crashed in from the one for the score.

But from there it was Nixa.  Scoring before half and then taking the second half kick off and scoring again, the Eagles were able to build a two score lead early in the third quarter.    Scoring twice in the third and fourth quaters provided the Eagles winning margin.

For Webb City, Jackson Lucas (116) and Isaiah Tela (100) both rushed for triple digits,

Webb City (1-1) will travel to Kickapoo next Friday night.
