Webb City wins on homecoming

Keegan Hartman

Webb City Cardinals football stayed hot as they continued their season of dominance on Homecoming. The Cardinals came into this game 5-0 on the season and would face off against another current C.O.C powerhouse, the Nixa Eagles. Nixa came into this picture with a 5-0 record on the season, and all of that was about to be tested.

Kicking off the first quarter, Webb City started off in typical Cardinal fashion as junior Durand Henderson would get a nice, short run into the endzone for the Cardinals. After an easy extra point, the score would be 7-0 for Webb City. Cardinals followed up that score with a nice defensive stand against the Eagles' offense. Senior quarterback Cash Link's offense would get the ball back and go to work. Cash would keep the Cardinals marching, and would eventually another short scoring run for the Cardinals. Webb City's offense drove the lead up to 14-0.

In the second quarter of the game, Webb City tried to get a tempo going for yet, another endzone attempt, but settled for a 32-yard field goal by Sophomore Sergio Perez. The sheer dominance of Webb City would not stop there. In an attempt for points, Nixa would cough up the ball on a pitch play to the outside, and Senior linebacker Blake Peterson would snatch to ball up, putting the Cardinals inside the Eagles 20- yard line.

After a few good runs for some small chunk yardage, Webb's offensive line would open up a gap for Senior Will Larson would take care of the rest. On a 3-yard run the Cardinals would convert for yet another 6 and an extra point. The score would continue to build up on the Eagles, putting the Cards in front 24-0.

Webb City's defense looked beyond dominant and too much to handle for Nixa, as Sophomore Terrell Kabala would snatch yet another fumble recovery for the Cardinals on the Eagles following offensive possession. Senior Jordon Rogers would come in and stamp 6 on the scoreboard for Webb. Score coming to an astounding 31-0.

Before the half, with six minutes still to go, defense continued to have some more fun with the Nixa Eagles offense. The Eagles would attempt a shot down-field since the ground game was not turning out so well. Yet, Webb would create yet another turnover, this time by Junior Alex Gaskill. Before the half, Senior Will Larson would march for a 51-yard score for Webb. At the half, the score would be 38-0.

Coming out of the locker room, the Nixa Eagles would get the ball to start things off, but struggled, once more, as the Cardinals made the Eagles cough up the pigskin courtesy of senior linebacker Blake Peterson. Webb's defense would maintain a lead of 38-0. Webb would punch in another 6 and an extra point early in the fourth quarter, and win with a final score of 45-7.

Webb City gets another win on the season to make them 6-0 for the first time since since 2015. Webb is looking to keep the odds in their favor as they travel on the road for the next two games. Webb City looks to face off against Ozark Tigers in week 7 and then compete against Neosho week 8. Kickoff for week 7 against Ozark is set for Friday at 7 pm at Ozark Tiger Stadium in Ozark, MO.
