The Cardinals came back home in week 5 after a dominant road win in week 4 against the Republic Tigers. Webb, 4-0, would look to advance to 5-0 in as they would host the Pittsburg Purple Dragons, 2-0. Webb opened the first half by electing to defer to the second half, and would open things up on the defensive side of the ball.
Cardinals' defense looked solid as senior Kole Deadmond managed to pick off Pittsburg's quarterback, Chase Curtis's, pass (#18) to give the Cardinals a crack at some potential points. After a great march down the field, senior Cash Link "linked" up with junior wide receiver, Alex Gaskill on a beautiful fade route in the endzone. Cardinals would put the first points on the board, score being 7-0
However, the Pittsburg Purple Dragons managed to climb back after Chase Curtis (#18) managed to get in a couple long passes to set up touchdown opportunities for the Dragons. Purple Dragons managed to takeover the lead. After a missed two-point conversion late in the 1st quarter, the score would be 13-7, Pittsburg.
Heading into the 2nd quarter, it would be a different story for the Cardinals. Both senior Dakota Wynn and senior Kole Deadmond would pick off Chase Curtis's passes for the Dragons. Cardinals managed to punch in points on a run by junior Durand Henderson and…
Heading into the locker room, the Cardinals would lead the Dragons 27-13.
At the return of the 3rd, the Cardinals would receive the ball and the offense would go right to work. On a dominant drive down the field, the Cardinals would quickly cap off a great drive with a 3 yard touchdown by junior Durand Henderson. Cardinals would stay atop throughout the 3rd quarter 34-13.
In the 4th, with 6:52 to go in the game, and after a huge defensive stand, senior running back Jacob Gettings would rush for a 73-yard run from near the 25-yard line. Webb managed to get to the red zone only to get a brief shot at the end zone, but Cash Link would turnover the ball to junior Brandis Evans (#26) for the Dragons. Leaving the Pirates with roughly 5 minutes to go in the game. Score would remain and result in a Webb City win: 34-13.
As the Cardinals go onto 5-0, the look to host the dominant Nixa Eagles during Webb City's homecoming. Kickoff is set for 7pm, and festivities and pregame ceremonies will take place at roughly 6:30pm
