Webb City opened their 2014 season with a 21-0 victory over the Carthage Tigers.
Tyler Davison scored twice and the defense stiffened when threatened to lead the Cardinals to the road win.
After suffering a turnonver on their first possession, the offense put together a nine play 94 yard drive to open the scoring. The big play of the drive was Keaton Burroughs scampering 53 yards into Tiger territory and six plays later Davison scored on a one yard plunge and a 7-0 lead.
The Cardinals scored again in the second quarter. The offense started near midfield and sophomore Hunter Vanlue ended the drive with a 14 yard touchdown run. Cory Duley connected on his second of three extra point attempts and the Cardinals held a 14-0 lead at halftime.
Webb City increased the lead with their first possession in the second half. Davison tallied on a 23-yard run at 5:03 in the third period. The 79-yard drive included a 17-yard carry by junior Kaleb Potts and a 22-yard pass from Tyson Roderique to fellow junior Bradyn Ansley.
The defense stopped long drives from the Tigers in second half inside the red zone. An interception and fumble recovery preserved the shut out.
The Cardinals (1-0, 1-0) will travel to Kansas City on Friday night to face Rockhurst.
