Cards stop Westminster 36-6

Webb City traveled to St Louis to battle Westminster Christian Academy and returned home with a 36-6 victory.  The Cardinals earned a home semi-final game next Saturday.

The Cardinals scored on the first possession covering 80 yards on 12 plays.  Quarterback Devin Pickett finished the drive with a 9 yard touchdown run.

Webb City, kicking into a stiff wind, attempted a surprise pop up kick but was penalized for an illegal touch before the ball actually hit the ground and the wildcats started their first drive on the Cardinal 38 yard line.  WCA wasted no time in scoring, needing only two plays, but missed the conversion and trailed 7-6.

Starting again at their twenty yard line, the Cardinals answered with a six play touchdown drive.  A twenty four yard pass to Cooper Strasser put the ball at the Wildcat forty two, where Trey Parra took the ball on the counter play and busted up the middle of the field to the endzone.  A missed extra point left the score at 13-6.

The next possessions by each team ended with turnovers.  Kiante Hardin intercepted a Wildcat pass at the five yard line to stop their drive.  Webb City would give the ball right back on the next play on a fumbled pitch.  but Hardin once again picked off a Wildcat pass.

The offense started at the five and with the help of a penalty picked up a first down to get away from their end zone. The running game began chewing up large gains as the Cardinals ran right at the Wildcat defense needing only six more plays to score.  Tyler Davison broke off a twenty seven yard run just ahead of Parra's second touchdown run, covering the remaining sixteen yards.

Hardin picked off his third pass to put the offense back on track at midfield.  Tyson Roderique hit Parra with a 30 yard touchdown pass on a wheel route out of the backfield and the Cardinals were in front 26-6 at half time.

The Cardinals were forced to punt on their first possession, but after the defense forced the second Wildcat punt of the second half, found themselves starting at the WCA 33 yard line.  Davison rumbled in from twenty nine yards out and Webb City was leading 33-6.

Cameron Tournear intercepted the Wildcats for the fourth interception of the game.  Nathan Gooch added a 27 yard field goal for the final margin of 36-6.

Webb City will entertain Cape Girardeau next Saturday.  Kick off is set for 1:30.  Advance tickets will be available at noon on Monday.  Ticket price $6.
