Cardinals advance with 55-20 victory

Webb City scored on the first play of the game and jumped to a quick 21-0 lead in stopping the Carthage Tigers 55-20 on a cool Wednesday night.

Devin Pickett hit Kiante Hardin with a 65 yard touchdown pass to start the game.  The Tigers attempt at converting a fourth down was stopped at midfield.  The Cardinals ran the same play on the opposite side of the field and Picket found Roosevelt Edwards for 31 yards.  Kyle Baldassarre carried the ball down to the two and Pickett finished the drive with a 2 yard run off the right side.  

The defense forced Carthage to punt on the next series and Hardin returned the ball 40 yards down to the Tiger 28 yard line.  Baldassare broke off a a 17 yard run and Pickett scored his second rushing touchdown two plays later.  With almost six minutes left in the first quarter the Cardinals had 160 yards of offense on only 8 plays and a 21-0 lead.

Pickett threw his second touchdown pass midway in the second quarter with a 31 yard strike to Edwards for a halftime score of 28-8.  

Defensively, Hardin and Koleson Crane each had interceptions in the second quarter.

The Cardinals widened the lead on their first three possessions of the second half as Trey Parra scored on runs of 1 and 3 yards and Tyler Davison on a 3 yard plunge.

The Cardinals will entertain Carl Junction on Monday night in the district finals.  Game time is set for 7:00.  Tickets will be $6.
