Webb City takes control late in 38-21 victory over the Willard Tigers.
Cameron Tournear recovered a Tiger fumble on their first possession and the Cardinals wasted little time with a quick four play drive to lead 7-0. Devin Pickett picked up 26 yards on a first down scramble moving the ball down to the Tiger 20 yard line. Three plays later, Trey Parra burst into the end zone from 17 yards out.
After allowing a Tiger first down, the defensed forced a punt and the offense came back out on their own 37 yard line. The highlight of this drive was a 42 yard run from Pickett before the offense stalled at the twelve yard line. Nathan Gooch nailed a 29 yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0.
Willard then controlled the ball for almost 10 minutes as they ran 19 plays before scoring and making it a 10-6 game. But Webb City was equal to the task as they controlled the ball the remainder of the half on their way to a 13 play scoring drive of their own. Tyler Davison finished the drive with a two yard plunge with only 29 seconds left in the half for a 17-6 halftime lead.
Webb City and Willard traded scores in third quarter. Willard closed to 17-14 with a twenty seven yard touchdown run before the Cardinals answered with a Kyle Baldassarre one yard run and 24-14 lead after three quarters.
Willard once again cut the Cardinal lead with long touchdown drive that included a conversion of a fourth and inches.
After starting at midfield, the Webb City offense pounded down the field in only five plays with Davison plowing in from 22 yards out to extend the lead back to 31-21.
On the ensuing kickoff the Tigers failed to field the ball cleanly and was tackeled at the three yard line. The defense stiffened forcing a punt from inside the ten yard line and the offense found themselves with the ball on the Willard thirty eight.
Trey Parra took the next play off the left side and bounced straight up the middle of the field for a thirty eight touchdown run and a 38-21 lead.
The Cardinals go on the road as they visit Neosho next Friday night.
