The Cardinals capture 2012 Class 4 title with a 42-14 win over Jefferson City Helias on Saturday afternoon.
The defense set the tone as they forced a Crusader turnover on downs, stopping Helias on the Cardinal 46 yard line.
John Roderique scored on the fifth play of the drive, keeping the ball on an option play to the right from thirty eight yards.
After another defensive three and out, the Cardinals started the next drive on their own 47 yard line.
Roderique hit Kohl Slaughter with a fifty three yard touchdown pass on the first play. After Alex Easley added the PAT, Webb City was on top 14-0.
The Cardinal offense had one more chance in the first quarter and needed only five plays. Phoenix Johnson ran the first three plays, taking the ball down to the eight yard line. Cooper Smith pushed the ball down to the five, before a penalty backed them up to the nineteen. Roderique rolled out to the left, but not finding anyone downfield, scrambled back across the middle for his second touchdown run.
The offense started the second quarter with their worst starting position, on their own 32 yard line. Johnson picked up 31 yards on three carries and another fourteen on a pass reception. Roderique found tight end Cooper Strasser for fourteen yards putting the ball on the twenty two. Roderique scored his third rushing touchdown off the half.
Helias put together a drive into Cardinal territory before stalling at the 30 yard line and setting up for a field goal. Nate Brown, flying in from the left side, blocked the attempt and Austin White returned it to the Webb City fourty six.
Pheonix Johnson wasted no time in scoring, taking the hand off on a counter play and bounced it outside to the left for a 54 yard touchdown run and a 35-0 lead.
In the second half, Cooper Smith and Trey Parra scored on touchdown runs for the final scores for the Cardinals.
This is the third consecutive state title, 15 consecutive playoff wins and 45 wins in row.
