Webb City wins the District Championship

Webb City win District Championship over the Hillcrest Hornets 55-10

On the 2nd play from scrimmage, Sr QB John Roderique faked a handoff, faked a pitch and used his speed on his way to a 72 yard TD to let the Hornets from Hillcrest know that any plans they had to avenge last year's playoff loss were not going to go their way on a brisk night at Cardinal Stadium.  In all the offense put up 401 yards rushing and 60 yards thru the air.  One pass play, was a sweep to  Jr WR Jalen Vaden who pulled up and threw a 49 yard strike to Sr TE Kohl Slaughter.  Sr RB Phoenix Johnson proved why he is one of the top backs in MO with 163 yards on just 13 carries and 3 TD's.  Roderique had 121 yards on 8 carries and the one TD and fellow Sr RB, Cooper Smith brought his lunch pail to work and had 3 TD's on 7 carries for 62 yards.  Soph RB Tyler Davison added a 4yd TD late in the game to close out the scoring for Webb City.

It always takes a TEAM effort, and other than one slip up on a PAT, Sr. Alex Easley had a good night.  His attempt at a 50 yard FG fell just short but he kept the Hornets pinned deep all night with his patented deep kickoffs.

The defense came to play against a physical and talented offensive minded Hillcrest team.  Hillcrest could only manage 169 yards of total offense.  71 on the ground and 98 thru the air.  Soph CB, Kiante Hardin nabbed his 7th interception of the season.  Sr DE, Jose Speer had 2.5 sacks and put the Hornets in a deep hole on their 1st possession that they never could dig out from.

Next up for the Cardinals is the 4th home playoff game in a row against the undefeated Sullivan Eagles from District 3.  They are similar to Webb City in they have outscored their opponents by an average score of 48-10 in the 12 games.  They have a physical running game with a pass sprinkled in when necessary.  Sounds like a good game is in store on a Saturday afternoon at 1:30PM.  Tickets are $6 and are available at the High School, Central Office, SMB Zora and Mid-Mo bank as well as the ticket window at the game.
