Cardinals win 28-7 on senior night

Webb City pushes its record to 8-0 with a 28-7 victory over previously unbeatean Ozark in a COC clash on Friday night.

Senior running back Cooper Smith scored from 20 yards out to cap a 7 play, 71 yard opening drive to give the Cardinals an early 7-0 lead.

After the defense forced the Tigers to punt on their second drive, Phoenix Johnson set the Webb City offense up at midfield.  Ten plays later, quarterback John Roderique covered the final 16 yards and after the Alex Easley PAT the Cardinals had opened a 14-0 lead.

After the defense looked to have held the Tigers once again, a penalty on the punt allowed Ozark to maintain possession.  Ozark marched down the field with a slow, time consuming 18 play drive but the Cardinals stopped them short of the end zone on a fourth and goal running play.

The Cardinals, taking over with 1:30 left before halftime, was forced to punt the ball back to the Tigers, but Kiante Hardin picked up his fifth interception of the year to end the half.

An exchange of punts opened the second half and then Webb City struck quickly on its second possession.  Roderique found Kohl Slaughter on a 41 yard scoring pass to push the lead to 21 points.

Ozark was able to score on a thirteen play drive of their own, closing the score to 21-7 with 1:39 left in the third quarter.

The Cardinal offensive line then went to work, leading the way for a drive that ate up almost eight minutes of clock, pounding down the field for a fifteen play scoring drive.  Cooper scored his second touchdown of the night, covering the final three yards and a 28-7 lead.

Webb City wraps up conference play next week as they travel to Branson.
