On another rainy Friday night, the Cardinals (4-0, 2-0) continue their offensive drive as they win 48-7 at Republic.
Phoenix Johnson started the night returning the opening kickoff 34 yards and setting up the first drive at the Webb City 48 yard line. It took only 8 plays and less than three minutes to find the endzone. The drive contained a Cooper Smith 14 yard run, a 13 yard pass to Jalen Vaden and was finished with a Johnson 13 yard run.
Webb City went to its passing game for the second drive. Quarterback John Roderique completed 7 of 8 on the drive, before Smith capped the drive with a 6 yard score.
The third drive of the first quarter was only three plays and covered 71 yards. Roderique picked up 11 yards on the first play, hit Kohl Slaughter for a 34 yard pass completion and finished the drive himself as he kept the ball around the left side for a 26 yard touchdown run. The Cardinals found themselves with a 20-0 lead at the end of the quarter.
The offense started the next drive at midfield with Trey Parra breaking runs of 7 and 26 yards getting the Cardinals inside the red zone. Smith picked up six yards on the next play and Roderique scored for the second time as he went the last 11 yards. Alex Easley, who was 6 of 7 on the night, added the PAT.
The defense was put to the test after a Republic interception and return found the Tigers starting a drive at the Cardinal fifteen yard line. An eight yard loss with a sack started the defensive stand and Tigers turned it over on downs with an incomplete pass on the fourth down.
Phoenix Johnson took over from there as the offense covered the length of the field in only seven plays. Cooper Smith had an eight yard run and a pass to Slaughter netted 17 yards. Phoenix had runs of fifteen, seventeen and twenty four yards before taking a counter play off the right side for the final 15 yards.
The Cardinals added two scores in the second half as Roderique scored from 17 yards and Logan Cloyd cashed in from the one yard line as Webb City was able to get a lot of players into the game.
Webb City will return home next Friday to battle the Nixa Eagles.
