In a game that was weather delayed for an hour, the Cardinals built a large halftime lead before winning convincingly 67-20. The only Cardinals offensive possession that did not result in a score ended the first half.
The Cardinals started the first five possessions on the Carthage side of the field. Todd Fowler set up the first drive with an interception at the Tiger 34. Quarterback John Roderique took the first play up the middle for a touchdown and with less than two minutes off the clock the Cardinals were in front 6-0.
The defense held the Tigers on their next possession and a bad snap on the punt rolled into the end zone for a Webb City safety.
The Cardinals, after a Phoenix Johnson return set them up at the Tiger 35 yard line, only needed five plays before Roderique found paydirt(mud) covering the last 13 yards.
Another bad snap on the next Carthage punt put the offense back in business at the Tiger 25 yard line. The drive ended four plays later when Trey Parra scored from three yards.
On the next Carthage possession, facing fourth and one, Jose Speer stopped the play in the back field to turn the ball back over to the offense. On the third play of the drive, Roderique found Phoenix Johnson down the seam for a 32 yard touchdown pass. The final play of the first quarter and the Cardinals led 28-0.
After the Tigers scored to close to 28-6, the Cardinals went on their longest drive of the game using 8 plays to cover 46 yards. Roderique tossed his second touchdown pass of the half covering 12 yards to senior Kohl Slaughter.
Kiante Hardin intercepted a Tiger pass attempt on their next possession and with a convoy of blockers returned it 40 yards for touchdown and with six minutes left in the first half the lead was now 41-6
Webb City had time for one more scoring drive in the first half. The offense only needed five running plays to increase their lead when Johnson scored from 13 yards.
With the large lead, the coaches were able to get a lot of players into the game. Mason Williams led the opening drive of the second and scored on a nineteen yard run. Devin Pickett engineered a thirteen play touchdown drive, finished the last six yards. Parra scored on the final play of the game, returning a kickoff.
The Cardinals (3-0, 1-0) travel to Republic next Friday night
