Cards overwhelm Mustangs

Cards overwhelm Mustangs

The Cardinals honored 27 senior players prior to the game and then followed with a strong showing in turning back Mac County 55-7 on Friday night.

The Cardinal defense stopped the Mustangs on their first possession and after a bad punt into the wind the offense found a short field in front of them taking over on the Mc County 34 yard line.  Senior running back Slade Byford only needed two carries to find the endzone, the last a 31 yard touchdown run and the Cardinals were up 7-0.

Another defensive stop and the offense trotted back on the field and started from the Mustang 38 yard line.  Scott Roderique threw a quick pass out to fellow senior Austin Daniel who wound his way up the home sideline for a touchdown.  Webb City was 14-0 with less than four minutes into the game.

Webb City added another touchdown in the first quarter on a eight play drive covering 51 yards.  Daniel caught his second scoring pass from Roderique in the far corner of the endzone from 19 yards out.

The second quarter was highlighted by two touchdowns, Jamison Cady with a 28 yard run and Phoenix Johnson from 41 yards.  The halftime score, 35-0.

The second half started for the Cardinals as quickly as the first, as senior Maddy Johson took the first play of the half 71 yards to the endzone.

Austin Daniel and the defense posted a score, intercepting a pass on the Mustangs second play of the half and returning it 40 yards to the end zone.

Two touchdowns in two minutes and the lead was now 48-0.

The Cardinals will finish the regular season next Thursday night at Carl Junction.
