Cards roll into semi-finals

The Cardinals turned back the Union Wildcats on Saturday afternoon 42-7 and advance to the semi-finals next Saturday.

The game opened with Webb kicking off to the Wildcats.  The defense forced a a Union punt and the offense took over on their own 21 yard line.  The Cardinals proceeded to march 79 yards to the end zone, needing only six plays.  Breckin Williams, filling in for the injured Scott Roderique at quarterback, found Austin Daniel for a 37 yard pass into Union territory before Maddy Johnson busted up the middle for the final 33 yards and a quick 7-0 lead.

The defense made their presence known on the next series, forcing another Union punt into the wind and set the offense up on the Union 45 yard line.  Breckin found Austin Daniel on the first snap alone over the middle for a touchdown.  After an Alex Easley PAT, it was now 14-0 with 7:37 left in the first quarter.

Union was able to muster a little offense, moving into Cardinal territory, but could not convert a 4th down and Webb City took over on their own 25 yard line.  The offense then went on a ten play drive and Maddy Johnson scored his second touchdown in the first quarter from 9 yards out.

The Cardinals extended their lead to 35-0 before half with two scoring drives covering 90 and 98 yards.  Breckin scored from 3 yards and Maddy added another score with a 26 yard run.

Union thought they might be able to awaken their offense as they recovered an on-side kick to start the second half.  However, the Cardinals defense took it away with an interception by Austin Daniel on the second play.  Then Breckin found Daniel across the middle again, and with one move to make a defender fall, he was in the end zone and the Cardinals were up 42-0 early in second half.

The Cardinals were able to get a lot of players on the field in the second half in what will be the final home game of the year.  Webb City will travel to Harrisonville next Saturday to match up with the Wildcats in a 1:30 afternoon game.
