The Cardinals turned back the Bolivar Liberators for the third straight year in playoff action, 48-13, on Wednesday night. Now the travel to Jefferson City on Monday night to battle the Crusaders of Helias.
The Cardinals kicked off to Bolivar to start the game, and after allowing one first down, forced the Liberators to punt into the wind. The offense started on the Bolivar 44 and four plays later Maddy Johnson went straight up the middle the last 24 yards for the first score of the game.
Hunter Luna helped force a three and out by Bolivar with a second down sack and another punt into the wind set the offense up on the short side of the field, the Bolivar 49.
Scott Roderique picked up eleven yards on the first play, and then after an incomplete pass, scampered 29 more to set up first and goal from the Bolivar nine yard line. Bolivar stopped Maddy on first down, and after incomplete pass, Jamison Cady took the ball down inside the one. Maddy punched it on fourth and goal and the home team was up 14-0.
Bolivar showed why they earned a playoff spot on their next possession as they drove the ball deep into Cardinal territory, but Austin Daniel stepped in front of the receiver at the 11 yard line and raced down the sideline 89 yards for pick 6 touchdown and Webb City was now up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Cardinals finally had to start a drive on their side of the field, although it was only the 47 yard line and found the end zone seven plays later. The biggest play of the drive was a Jamison Cady 38 yard run that took the ball down to the eleven. Scott found Phillip Donna in the end zone for the score.
The next possession resulted in a 39 yard touchdown pass to Austin Daniel capping off a 4 play drive.
The defense intercepted Bolivar next pass at midfield and Roderique took advantage as he carried the ball himself 47 yards before being stopped at the two yard line. Maddy finished the drive on the play and with 4:47 showing on the first half clock, Webb City had opened up a 41-0 lead.
Webb City received the ball to start the second half at their own 22 and after couple of small gains, Maddy Johnson broke off a 63 yard touchdown run.
Bolivar was able to add two scores of their own late in the game to make the final score 48-13.
The Cardinal offense scored on every possession except two, taking a knee to end the first half and then ending a long drive with a fumble late in the game.
The Cardinals will now advance to tackle the Crusaders in Jefferson City on Monday night.
