The Cardinals open district play with 21-13 win over the Carthage Tigers. The win also allowed the Cardinals to capture the COC large division title as Webb City completed conference play with a perfect 6-0 record.
The Cardinals jumped to a 6-0 lead when they forced the Tigers to punt on their first possession and Collin Sigars raced through to block the punt and the scooped up the ball and sprinted 25 yards to the end zone.
Webb City threatened on the next possession as they marched from the own 20 yard line into the red zone before turning the ball over on downs at the Tiger 3 yard line.
A stop by the Cardinal defense on the Tigers gamble to convert a 4th and inches from near midfield allowed the offense to take over on the Carthage 41 yard line. After the Cardinals converted their own 4th down, Scott Roderique found Jarvis Jones with a 30 yard touchdown pass. Roderique then converted the 2 point attempt and Webb City lead 14-0 with just over three minutes to half.
The Tigers then ran the ensuing kickoff deep into Cardinal territory and were able to find the endzone and the teams went to half with Webb City leading 14-7.
Neither team was able to score in the third quarter, but the Cardinals went 70 yards in 10 plays with their first possession of the fourth quarter and found themselves with a 21-7 lead with less than seven minutes left in the game. Jamison Cady was able to score from inside the one behind the right side of the offensive line.
The Tigers struck back with the aid of another big kickoff return and scored with 4 minutes left. The extra point was missed and the score stood at 21-13.
For the second game in a row, the offense then put the game away with a clock killing drive and with 19 seconds left took a knee and watched the time run out on a 21-13 victory.
The Cardinal defense held the Tigers to only 93 yards rushing and 212 total yards.
Webb City will host McDonald County on Senior Night next Friday.
