The Cardinals defeated Republic 41-6 to highlight homecoming.
The night began with senior Hailey Roderique being crowned homecoming queen. Then the US Army dropped three of the best at midfield to deliver the ball to begin the game.
The Cardinals began their first possession at midfield and scored 5 plays later as quarterback Scott Roderique hit Austin Daniel on a fade to the right corner of the endzone from 2 yards. The biggest play on the drive was Roderique keeping the ball himself for a run of 25 yards setting up the score.
Webb City turned it over as they were looking to score on the next possession, but the defense was able to force the Tigers into their third punt of the quarter and the offense started on their own 38 yard line and after an incomplete pass to to open the drive Roderique picked up 13 yards, crossing into Republic territory. Senior Maddy Johnson took the next play 49 yards for his first touchdown of the night.
Breckin Williams intercepted the Tigers next pass at the Republic 43 yard line and two Maddy carries stretched the lead to 21 -0 to end the first quarter.
The Cardinals started the second quarter at the Republic 29 yard line as the defense held the Tigers on fourth down deep in their end. Christian Hoffman scored 4 plays later from 7 yards out, running over a Tiger defender at the goal line.
The defense continued to hold the Tigers without a first down and the offense took over at midfield. Maddy Johnson then spun off a would be tackle and sprinted 44 yards to give the Cardinals a 34-0 lead with more than 7 minutes left in the half.
Webb City began substituting defensively the next time Republic had the ball and the Tigers were able to move the ball downfield and score before half and teams left the field with Webb City leading 34-6.
The Cardinals received the second half kickoff and 5 plays later, Maddy Johnson scored his fourth touchdown of the night taking a counter play 40 yards and outrunning the defense to make the score 41-6 barely two minutes into the half. The Cardinals began to heavily substitute in players into the game on both sides of the ball ran their record to 6-0 on the season.
Webb City will travel north next Friday to battle St. Thomas Aquinas before district play begins.
