Cardinals win COC West opener

Webb City scored six runs in the third inning to taking down Republic 6-2 in their COC West division opener.

The Cardinals left the bases loaded in the second and then allowed the Tigers to score an unearned run in the top of the third to go down 1-0.

Webb City loaded the bases again to start their half of the third when Mason Williams reached on an error and both Trevor Lofland and Mason Young were hit by pitches.  Lake Johnson drove in the first run with a long sac fly to deep right.  Back to back singles from Braden Strickland and Barek Hoffman drove in two more runs.  Barret Weller was the third player to be hit in the inning to reload the bases.  Karsen Myers drove in the fourth run drawing a walk.  Williams, batting for the second time in the inning, drove in the final two runs with a single to left.

The Tigers stranded a pair of runners in the fourth and picked up another unearned run in the fifth.

Lake Johnson, Braden Strickland and Barret Weller each collected two hits.  Mason Williams reached base in all four plate appearances (hit by pitch, error, walk and single) and drove in two runs.

Mason Young earned the win, throwing the first five innings, allowing two hits, walking four and striking out seven.  Bryson Bard pitched a clean sixth and only allowed a single in the seventh before getting the final out.  He struck out three.

The Cardinals will be at Carthage on Thursday.
