Cardinals use two big innings in getting past Springdale

The Cardinals used a four run fourth and a five run fifth in taking down Springdale 11-5 on Friday afternoon.

Webb City got on board first with a run in their first at bats.  Karsen Myers led of the home half with a single and moved to third when Mason Williams doubled over the center fielders head.  Myers was out at home trying to score on a fielders choice off the bat of Lake Johnson.  Carter Lee, running for Williams moved up to third on the play and scored when Trevor Lofland singled to center.

Braden Strickland manufactured another run in the second.  He walked to start the inning and moved up to second on a wild pitch.  Still at second with two outs, he then stole third and when the throw got away from the third baseman, he scampered on home.

The Bulldogs had matched the Cardinals first run with a run of the own in the top of the second and then took the lead in the third when they scored twice.

In the fourth, Braden Strickland doubled to left center with one out and moved to third when Konnor Hood knocked a single to center, moving up to second on the throw.  Barek Hoffman drove home home Strickland with an infield single behind the third base bag.  A wild pitch moved both Hood and Hoffman up ninety feet just in front of a run scoring single from Dawson McMuillen.  A balk scored Hoffman and moved McMullen to second.  Karsen Myers grounded out to third, but on the play McMullen took off for third and scored on Bulldog throwing error giving the Cardinals a 6-3 lead.

After the Bulldogs pulled back to within one at 6-5, Webb City answered with five more runs in the half of the fifth.  Trevor Lofland legged out an infield single and moved to third on a booming double off the bat of Mason Young.  After Braden Strickland worked a walk to load the bases, Konnor Hood knocked in two with a sharp single to right.  After a ground out, Dawson McMullen was hit by a pitch to load the bases once again.  A single from Karsen Myers scored one, but a base running error cost the Cardinals a runner for out number two.  A ground ball to short off the bat of Mason Williams was kicked around, allowing the final two runs to come home.

Karsen Myers and Trevor Lofland both collected three hits to lead the 14 hit attack.  Konnor Hood, in his first varsity start, went 2-3 and drove in two. Mason Williams was 2-4 with both of them going for doubles.  Braden Strickland scored three times.

Colton Rickman worked the first three innings, yielding three runs on four hits, striking out one.  Rylan Bell earned the win in relief, working the next two innings, striking out two.  Chayse Denton and Braden Strickland each worked a hitless inning to finish the game.

The Cardinal begin COC West division play on Tuesday with a visit from Republic.
