Mason Young went 2-2 at the plate, driving in the first two runs of the game and struck out five Falcons in his five innings of work to help the Cardinals past Glendale.
Karsen Myers fought back from an 0-2 count to draw a lead off walk to start the game. Two outs later Trevor Lofland was also issued a free pass. Mason Young then hit a sinking line drive to right field that got past a diving effort of the right fielder and rolled to the wall. Myers and Lofland score easily as Young finished at third with a triple.
After Glendale cut the lead in the half, Webb City got their third run in the fifth. Dawson McMullen opened the inning with a walk and stole second. Mason Williams, who had struck out twice on curveballs, laced a fast ball to right to drive in McMullen and give the Cardinals a 3-1 lead.
On the mound, Young was tagged for unearned run in the second and escaped the fifth by only giving a single run. After the Cardinals extended the lead to 3-1 in the top of the inning, Glendale loaded the bases with two singles and hit batter with only one out in the bottom of the fifth. An infield single that a diving Braden Strickland managed to keep on the infield only allowed one run to score. With bases still loaded, Young struck out the number three hitter in the lineup, for the third time of the game, as he swung through a letter high fastball. After that he got the cleanup hitter to foul out and the inning ended.
Chayse Denton came in to start the sixth and earned the save. He set down the Falcons in order in the sixth. After allowing a one out single in the bottom of the seventh, he coaxed a soft liner to Mason Young, now playing third base, who doubled off the runner with a toss to first.
The Cardinals (12-3) will be at home with Kickapoo on Thursday and Springdale on Friday.
