Cardinals move to 4-0 in COC play with Senior night win

Webb City, now 14-4, kept its conference record unscathed at 4-0 with an 11-1 win over Carthage.

Luke Beverlin stymied the Tigers, striking out eleven.  Allowing five hits and only one run over 5 innings, he needed only 72 pitches to earn the complete game win.

After leaving the bases loaded in the first, the Cardinals scored in each of the next four innings in the run-shortened contest.  Hunter Shull reached on a Tiger error to open the bottom of the second, scoring on a Sam Weller double.  Andrew Young then stroked a triple to deep right center, scoring Young, and then advancing home on a rbi groundout off the bat of Mason Williams.

Drew Vonder Haar manufactured a run in the third, as he led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a ground out and finally scampering home on a wild pitch.

Shaun Hunt drove in the single run of the fourth with an rbi double to right field.

The fifth inning closed the deal as the Cardinals scored six times to invoke the mercy rule.  Back to back walks to Christian Brock and Brett Korth was followed by a bunt single from Shull to load the bases.  After Brock scored on a passed ball, Young delivered his third hit of the day, a two-run single to right.  Williams and Hunt followed with back to back doubles for runs 9 and 10.  Vonder Haar then ended the game with a solid single to left.

Young was a perfect 3-3 on the day, scoring three runs and driving in four.  Willams and Hunt each had two hits and drove in two.

After the game, the Cardinals celebrated the careers of this years seniors:  Christian Brock, Shaun Hunt, Brett Korth, Payton Marshall, Shadrach Salazar, Hunter Shull, Drew Vonder Haar, and Sam Weller.

The Cardinals will take on Nixa on Wednesday, with the first pitch scheduled at approximately 6:30
