Cardinals open LAEL tournament with win

Cardinals open LAEL tournament with win

On a damp, cold afternoon the Cardinals fought back with seven runs in the bottom of the sixth to turn back Carl Junction 10-5.

The Bulldogs collected five runs over the first three innings to build a 5-1 lead.  Alex Bass, in relief of Marcus Coleman, then held the Bulldogs hitless for the final four innings, allowing the Cardinals to come back for the win.

Tylor Morehead singled and scored in the second inning to open the Cardinal scoring.  After picking up single runs in fourth and fifth, Webb City scored seven runs in the sixth.  Taking advantage of six walks and a couple of Bulldog errors, the Cardinals sent thirteen batters to the plate in the inning.  Bryson Mathews opened the inning with a walk.  After a Bulldog pitching change, Alex Gaskill and Kade Hicks each drew walks to load the bases.  Will Larson drove in the first run on a ground out to second and Jacob Monroe drew the fourth walk of the inning to load the bases again.  Cade Beason delivered two runs with a single to center.   The Bulldogs gifted the Cardinals two more runs, throwing the ball into right field on a dropped third strike, allowing Monroe and Beason to score.  A wild pitch and another Bulldog error helped the Cardinals to their final two runs.

Beason led the Cardinals offense, reaching base four times with two hits and two walks driving in two and scoring twice.  Bryson Mathews also collected two hits on the day.

Alex Bass earned the victory in relief.

Webb City (2-0) will travel to Branson on Tuesday
