Cardinals open homestand with win

The Cardinals opened a busy week of home games with a 5-2 win over McDonald County on Monday.

Evan Slaughter, allowing only 2 unearned runs over five innings, picked up the pitching victory.  He only allowed two singles, striking out eight.  Derick Newby pitched the last 2 innings for the save.

Tyler Davison, hit by a pitch, opened the scoring in the first inning as Calem Nutting delivered a two out basehit to take a 1-0 lead.  Webb City scratched another single run in the third when Kolten Potts reached on an error and was driven home by a Trenton Moeller single.

Austin Carter manufactured his own run in the fifth.  After being hit by a pitch, he stole second base, moved over to third on a ground out and scored on a wild pitch.  Cade Crouch then singled, moving up as Potts reached on an error.  Andrew Greek drove in the Crouch with his second hit of the night.

Kyle Baldassarre added an insurance run in the sixth.

Webb City will entertain Nixa on Tuesday at 4:30.
