Webb City escaped with a 6-4 vicory over the Joplin Eagles on a cool afternoon at the Joplin Sports Complex.
After the Eagles grabbed an early 1-0 lead, the Cardinals scored four runs in the top of the third. Andrew Greek reached on an Eagle error to lead off the inning, followed by Cooper Strasser drawing a walk. An error on a bunt from Devin Pickett allowed the Cardinals to get on the board as Greek scored to tie the game. Kolten Potts loaded the bases with a walk. Kyle Baldassarre and Austin Carter each drove in a run, being credited with a sacrific flies, but reaching base when the center fielder misplayed both. Calem Nutting delivered the final run on a sacrifice fly of his own and the Cardinals led 4-1.
The Eagles scored lone runs in the third and fourth inning narrowing the Cardinal lead to 4-3.
Webb City added two insurance runs in the top of the seventh. Strasser led off the inning with a double and scored when Pickett doubled. Tyler Davison, 2-4 on the day, drove in the final run with a triple to deep center field for a 6-3 lead
The Eagles threatened in the bottom of the seventh, scoring once before Cade Crouch closed the game out with back to back strikeouts, leaving the bases loaded. Crouch scattered seven hits, striking out 12 in the complete game win.
Webb City (3-3) travels to play in the Hollister tournament this weekend.
