The Cardinals opened the 2014 season on Friday, dropping an 8-4 decision to the visiting Tigers.
After allowing an unearned run to open the first inning, the Cardinals were able to plate 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. Austin Carter, Calem Nutting and Cooper Strasser drew consecutive two out walks. Carter scored the first run, scampering home on a Tiger wild pitch and Joseph Jones drove in the second run with an infield single.
Bentonville pulled ahead with a four run burst in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Kolten Potts and Kyle Baldassarre drove in fourth inning runs with basehits to close the gap to 5-4. A three run sixth inning for Bentonville provided the final scoring.
Potts led the team with three hits, while Jones added two singles.
Cade Crouch suffered the loss, allowing 5 runs over four innings.
The Cardinals will entertain Rogersville on Saturday starting at noon.
