Webb City defeated Logan-Rogersville 12-2 in five innings to open the 2012 season on Saturday afternoon.
Klay James led off the home half of the first inning with a single to center and moved to second on a Richie Peoples sac bunt. Breckin Williams reached with a walk and Gage Belcher drove in the first run of the year with a double down the left field line.
LogRog was able to take a short lead, scoring twice in the top of the third with both runs scoring on a passed ball.
The Cardinals quickly tied it 2-2 as James, after being hit by a pitch to start the inning, scored on Williams sacrifice fly to center.
Webb City broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth, using four hits, five walks and an error to score seven runs. Austin White began with a one-out single to right, Keaton Teal drew a walk and both runners moved up on passed ball.
Duncan Fletcher was credited with a base hit as a Cardinal runner collided with Wildcat infielder and was called out for interference. James then promplty scored White with a basehit to center and Peoples followed with a bases clearing double to left. Williams, Belcher and Andrew McDaniel all followed with walks and Williams scored on a wild pitch to make it 7-2. The Cardinals scored their final two runs when the Wildcats did not catch a fly ball off the bat of Carson Powell.
The Cardinal hitters wasted little time in the bottom of the fifth in ending the game early, scoring three times. The first four cardinal hitters of the inning, Fletcher, James, Peoples and Williams each singled, with Fletcher and James scoring. After Belcher reached on a fielders choice, the Wildcats intentionally walked Andrew McDaniel and Powell promptly ended the game with a single.
James led the Cardinal hitting attack with three hits and scoring four times. Peoples, Belcher, and Fletcher eached recorded two hits on the day.
Williams earned the win, only allowing two hits and one earned run on the day. He struck out nine and issued five walks in the complete game.
The Cardinals will travel to Branson on Monday, Republic on Tuesday and Lebanon on Thursday in the season opening Lead-Off Classic. The varsity and junior varsity is scheduled to play each day.
